Didn't plan on doing mine, was 1200 miles from home, wet and tired, and anxious to get back in a hurry. The 24 hrs ride wasn't really that hard physically. Would've been easier if it wasn't raining most of the time and had I gotten some sleep before leaving. As it was I had been up 38hrs by the time I got home.
WHY?????? I take several trips a year and always plan the tirps so I can take detours and stop to enjoy the things there are to see along the way. I generally try to plan for about 300 miles a day and try to stop at a hotel with a hot tub and pool - hopefully near a Red Lobster. Maybe I am a pu$$ie, but to me the trip is not about how many miles you can go in a day, but it's abot how much $hit you see along the way. I just got back yesterday from a short hop around Lake Michigan - 1,200 miles and it took me 7 days. I did some parasailing in Macinaw City Michigan and ate at some great places along the way. I took a 50 mile detour to stop and pet a Black Bear cub. Maybe being retired like I am allows me to take more time and enjoy the ride rather than just trying to rack up the miles????
Everyone has different criteria. One of the (few) benefits left in our country! I'd like to see if I could make an iron butt ride one day, but my butt's pretty flabby right now (gotta start doing more cardio again!)
im actually planning on doing an ironbutt run sometime in the fall whenever these showers let up...hopefully will be doing it with two other members on this forum...ill be doing 1000 miles in 24 hrs...i should be nice and sore seeing as how ill be doing it on my sportbike
Kered, you are at UF, right? Let me know when you guys decide to do your Iron Butt run, I might join you if you don't mind. I am down here in Ocala.
