Default Better Fuel Milage MPG

Would like some suggestions to try to obtain better fuel milage.

Bike: 2007, Road King Classic, 3600 miles, 96 CI, 6 Spd., Screamin' Eagle slip-ons, Screamin' Eagle Air Cleaner, Power Commander III with stock map.

I'm getting about 32 MPG to 42 MPG mostly on 7 to 30 mile rides. Just wondering if others feel this is normal fuel milage or if there are ways to increase my fuel milage. I have not been on any long trips with the bike yet. Longest ride with this bike about 150 miles

Other options that are on the bike:

Medium height quick detachable winshield
Sundowner Harley seat
Adjustable Riders backrest
Windshield mount thermometer
HotToppers bolt cover caps
Harley Transformations passenger floorboard custom inserts

Thanks, Mike

Try using a lower octane gas. Use the lowest octane you can with out pinging. You'll get better gas milage and performance.

Check with whoever you bought the PCIII from. You can adjust it for mileage or performance. Maybe have it dyno tuned for the mix of performance and mileage your looking for.

Is your bike running rich or lean? Check the plugs. Go from there. 32 mpg sounds low. Most of the people I know are getting 38 to 45 mpg with your mostly stock setup. Lean engines are mean but they burn , rich engines last forever. Both of my bikes average about 38 mpg. One is stock except breather and pipes with a carb. The other has a different cam setup and stage one breather with a more open exhaust setup. Both of my bikes run a little on the rich side.

You might already know this but check your plugs cold and use anti-sieze on the threads. I am amazed at the people that don't know that.

If those 7-30 mile rides are through towns & traffic I think you're in the right range. If they're highway miles it's low but how many highway miles can you have in 7-30 mile rides?

Return your bike to stock.

Or get that PCIII set for the mpg/performance compromise you're happy with.

I'm not so sure about the fuel octane suggestion. I did my own "scientific" and found negligible difference, i.e nothing I could attribute to the fuel. And for only 50¢ more a tank, I'll use what it is designed for.

It is all in the tuneup. My big inch carbed motors get low to mid 30mpg all the time.It is much easier with carbs to tune the motors, can be expensive trying to find a good electronic FI tuner.Good Luck!
