i havent had time to get supplys yet but i noticed what looked like thin plastic on a pipe.the only thing i had was acrysol and it worked like a champ.

 

I have been polishing as a hobby for at least a few years and have made my share of errors. Caswell Plating has supplies and a Polish/Plate/Powdercoat forum that is really useful. Back to your original question, if the engine cases on your bike are powdercoated you could strip with aircraft paint remover.(You will want the cases removed from the bike, of coarse) The next step would either be sanding or greaseless compound. Then go with brown compound and then white, finish with white rouge, or mothers or similiar. www.caswellplating.com has an online store where you could buy an aluminum polishing kit for pretty reasonable.
