and it does suck when you are trapped between two lanes of traffic going in different directions. \\; The best thing is, as was stated earlier, keep to the middle of the lane.

It's important to protect your lane. It seems from your post you were with at least 1 other rider. 2 or more riders should have no prob doing this. In FL it is illegal to travel outside of the travel lane\\; no passing on the right unless you've got a marked lane.

Didn't say I knew for sure it was illegal in all states.

It is illegal in Michigan to pass on the right if you cross over the white line even if the shoulder is paved. \\; People do it all the time though whether your on a bike or in a vehicle.
