Default ran out of gas

first time ever. left home this morning for a short ride to the barber, noticed I was in the red and figured i should have enough for a 15 mile ride to the nearest gas pump. at around 179.something miles my low fuel light came on. I didn't even know I had one... sure enough about a half mile later at 180.2 and turning in to the gas station, bike went cough... sputter... cough... quit. coasted to the premium pump which had a bag over the nozzle and pushed the next 8 feet to the regular pump.

what a kick in the head.

i guess when the low fuel light comes on there's nothing really left but fumes.

I have an old 1989 FXST that has a reserve, so I hit the nearest gas station when I have to put it on reserve. I try not to let the gas get that low, because with a 19 year old bike who knows what is at the bottom of the gas tank.

I ran out of gas&nbsp\\; in my teens. Father came along as I was walking down the road. Seen car, seen me. Asked what was wrong. I told him that I ran out of gas. He asked me if gas gauge was broke. I said no, it works. He asked if I was broke, I said no and that I have some money. He said that the conclusion to all of this was that I was lacking momentary intelligence. I would have&nbsp\\;preferred to&nbsp\\;walked to the nearest station to get gas which was almost five miles than to have to get in the truck with him.

I have a 07 RKC also and when the light comes on I still have enough for more than 20 miles, how much more I do not know.

My 07 Heritage will go about 40 miles when the light comes on. About a gallon left every time even after 13,000 miles. Airdog, it might be time to read up on how to adjust your level indicator.

Ran out during the Sturgis rally about 6 years ago. Coming back from Devils tower, guy on a custom chopper had a hose and pop bottle, he even did the sucking. Lesoon learned, carry a piece of hose and empty bottle, get someone else to suck!

I can run at least 30 miles with the light on. Always carry some clear plastic hose&nbsp\\;( 5 ft. ). It fits anywhere and you can see the gas coming before you get a mouth full.

Hope you learned a lesson.&nbsp\\; never run below a quarter tank.&nbsp\\; The fuel pump needs to be covered for cooling.&nbsp\\; It will last longer.&nbsp\\;
