I'm no lawyer but I do know that a ticket has to have a certain amount of specificity. In this case, it should be about decibels. The cop for instance can't just say you were going too fast. He has to clock you. He has to state exactly how fast you were going. In the case of noise, he has to measure the decibels. Suppose the muffler on my car goes bad and I buy a new one but its a stock replacement from Sears or Midas? Suppose its no louder than stock and is a replacement? Just because I didn't buy it from GM doesn't make it louder or illegal.

Unfortunately I believe the only way out of this is to get a lawyer. Judges will walk all over you. It's up to you but if they didn't actually measure the sound I'd be pissed enough to pay a lawyer a lot more money than the ticket would cost.

That's short and sweet and a cheap shot without specifics. Exactly what and why is that false? My point that a cop can't cite you for speeding with just his opinion without clocking you is false? What else is false?

Many ordinances are tossed due to lack of specificity. Just because they passed a law doesn't mean it will hold water.

Quiet mufflers are almost always going to be DOT approved. If they're loud, they can draw attention to themselves.
