Got a loud pipes ticket!

Move to Washington State. We have very good gun laws and I've no one I know who rides has ever heard of a loud pipe ticket. It might happen here, but I don't think it happens often.

Thats what I was looking to read! Everett, WA resident here....

The pendulum is swinging towards the very conservative quiet side. This has been coming for a number of years. In Milwaukee, WI the council members have penned legislation that would allow any John Doe citizen to file a complaint that a motorcycles exhaust was too loud. If this does become law I would imagine that it would end up getting tossed because there is no “Standard” by which to hold the individual to.
In Kenosha, WI they are issuing tickets to any vehicle that is loud; car, truck, hot rod or bike doesn’t matter. Why? Too many locals were complaining about the loud noise in their neighborhoods and commercial areas. I have not read the law, but I understand that a LEO sticks a coat hanger up the pipe. If it goes all the way then the pipe has no baffle and is therefore illegal.
My 07 RG has stock muffelers so I’m ok. The Sporty with Cycle Shack slip-ons is another story. So I’m looking for a performance muffler that will be close to the allowable max db limit.

So I bought that set of stock pipes and put them on over the weekend. They are really clean take-offs and they look good enough (although, there is no heat shield on the rear pipe). I know now why every guy who brings a new Harley home from the stealership modifies the exhaust first chance they get. The bike is so quiet now. Most of the power is still there (except at the top of the rpm range) but it is like riding in stealth mode. The next step is getting my ticket signed off by a LEO.

I'm not voicing any opinion one way or the other about loud pipes but many cities have noise ordinances and more are following every day. If we, the motorcycle community, don't tone the noise down one day stock pipes will be all that are allowed.
I've had very loud pipes in the past and liked the sound but my riding buddies didn't, especially those with radios. I now have a RG with 2 into 1 Thunder Headers. They sound great but are not excessively loud and I CAN hear my radio and my riding buddies can hear theirs.
I am for freedom of choice but it is coming (noise legislation) and whether there is anything we can actually do about it remains to be seen other than help ourselves by trying to keep the decibels to a resonable level.
See latest Enthusiast Magazine, there is an article in there about this.

Now this is starting to pi$$ me off....
So before I take the bike to a LEO to have the loud pipes ticket signed off, I had to pay my registration and wait for it to come in the mail and I had to get a new proof of insurance from my insurance company because I wasn't going near the police unless I had "all of my papers in order."
I took the bike to the local CHP station and the cop at the counter looks at the ticket, says :loud pipes?" (like it is BS), and tells me that he doesn't have a decibel meter so he has no way of telling whether my bike is too loud or not (of course, neither did the guy who wrote me the ticket). The CHP officer tells me to go to the SDPD because they issued the ticket.
So I go to the SDPD. The lady cop at the desk looks at the ticket and says "loud pipes?" (like it is a BS ticket). Then she turns the ticket over, signed it off, and said "all motorcycles are loud" and "even if I listened to it, I have no way of telling whether or not your bike is too loud."
So, all of that trouble, time and expense wasted because, in the end, nobody ever gave a sht enough to even look at it. There must be a moral to this story. Does anybody see it?

I do think that cop ought to get a real life and stop jacking off. I guess he's a wannabe, wannabe cop that is. These are the guys that give LEO's a bad rep.
Moral to the above story; real cops don't want to be bothered with bullcrap like this.
