I had a similar problem with my FXD. I brought it to an indepentant motorcycle garage, where he told me that the problem is the throat of the carb is not 40mm but 38.6 and he cuold seen it to Woods or Wood performance and have it honed out and re-jetted and dynoed. I said ok and I have 10 HP more and it does not caugh or die. It was about $600.00 bucks but worth it.

What about the pipe's connection to the exhaust manifold (or whatever the equivelant on the bike is)? I thought I had seen a couple of posts before talking about bikes running bad and all that needed to happen was to have the pipes re-torqued down. Could that be part of the issue? I mean... if it is fine cold... and then when it gets warm it gets weird... Maybe when they first "tuned" it they tuned it with the pipes not torqued correctly... Now when the pipes get hot the metal expands and it is causing some kinda weird starvation?

Just a theory.

We'll see how things pan out this Friday. I'm taking it back to the dealership that put on the exhaust system. I'm going to print out this entire post so I will remember everyones suggestions. Keeping my fingers crossed that the dealership will figure out the issue and keep it relatively inexpensive. I just spent a boat load of cash on the handlebars and stainless steel cables.

thansk again...

Hey Lengendary...I'll give you $500.00....you pay the shipping and I'll take your bike off your hands for you!

Probably a simple adjustment to make it right....if not...I'd be glad to buy it at the right price.

Hog-Herder---what mileage were you getting when you thought it was in the toilet?

I think I am rich now, but unsure how much is too much.

Thanks

Moking...I've invested a lot more that than. We'll see how simple on Friday. I'm keeping this bike for a long time. So I will have to deal with the ups and downs!

Christ...the handle bars and cables cost more than $500.

Upper 20's, extreme low 30's on highway with steady throttle. At first I was told the usual, "It's normal for your mileage to drop with a stage I."

My reply, "I was born at night, just not last night.

Well, I'm picking the bike up tomorrow. They are said that the "idle" needed to be adjusted. They are saying it was set too low. I don't have a tach on the bike so I couldn't see the RPMs anyway. I'll post again after I ride it home tomorrow night. We'll see how good the dealership is...they are only dinging me for $80. Cheapest Harley Service appointment yet...

I'll let you know how I make out...

Got the bike back. Rode it all weekend. Its fixed. THe dealer adjusted the carb and tweaked the "Idle Screw". Hasn't stalled out on me yet. I am now a happy camper again.

Thanks to Hannums in Media, PA

Well, glad to hear that. I was going to suggest you try Deans HD in Sellersville. They used to be a real good Dealer when I lived in that area.
