I am a newbie too. I when to 4 dealer shops and sat on as many bikes as I could and talked to lots of sale guys and people who were just shopping. I really like the touring bikes so decided, since this was going be the bike I was going have for many years, to get the one really liked. Now waiting for my CVO Uiltra, dark to come in. Also taking the bike driving training aswell. Living the dream. Get the one you really want.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm going to take the course and see what I'm comfortable with. Worst case scenario I'll buy a used metric to ride for a couple months.
That's not a bad idea. Get a cheapo & beat the crap out of it until you get your mistakes out of the way. EVERY time you drop a Harley, something's gonna get snapped (levers $50.00 each), crushed (grip ends...not cheap either), or scraped (paint or chrome...Also not cheap).

ETA: Please don't resurrect two year old threads. Start yer own!
