Default 1000 mile service at 500 miles???

&nbsp\\;
I took my scoot to the dealership today to have some hardware installed and the service manager asked me if I wanted to have the 1000 mile service done. When I mentioned that I only had 500 miles on the bike, he said that some people have it done early&nbsp\\;"to get it out of the way". Is this common/recommended?&nbsp\\; Anyone have an opinion to share?&nbsp\\;

I know some say you should do it at 500 miles. I didn't and have not had any problems.

My buddy just bought a Honda Shadow, and he was told to take his in after 600 miles. I would say it would hurt, but don't think you need it.

I would want to wait until 1000 miles and give everything a good chance to shake loose if it's going to.

I would recomend waiting also.&nbsp\\; Another 500 miles for the loose debris and small shavings to get caught in the filter makes sense to me, at 500 you may not catch it all but by 1K you should.&nbsp\\; At 500 mi everything probably is not even seated good yet.

Everything that is going to shake loose has already shaken loose so go ahead and get the service done. I would feel better with fresh oil in the motor myself.

I did my 1000 service myself at 50 and 500, found a lot of metal bits at 50, took primary cover off to make sure I got them all. I see no harm doing it early as long as it is already there.

I did mine at 850, I don't think it is a problem to do it at 500.

Most of the other manufacturers recommend the first service at 600 miles. I thought the salesman had made a mistake when he said 1000 so I asked the service dept. New oil sooner is never a bad thing.
