Loud pipes
While driving home from work I was passed by a couple Harleys with extremely loud pipes. I'm not talking about marginally louder pipes. These must have been straight pipes with no baffles or something. Personally I've always thought these extreme pipes were very inconsiderate of others. So I thought I'd post a poll to help determine why people purchase these pipes.

RE: Loud pipes
The difference has nothing to do with pipes. It has to do with the rider's consideration and respect for others..
I have very loud pipes on my rig, but you don't see me banging the throttle in areas that I know are not appropriate.
Neighborhoods, hospital zones, school zones, under bridges in town, etc.

Although I won't answer your poll, (it's obvious where you're coming from by the way it's worded.), I will comment on the fact that YOU HEARD THEM!
Cagers don't look for us, so we need to make ourselves noticed.
BTW, I've had Reinharts, V&H 2 into1 Pro Pipes and straight pipes over the years.
I don't wear a helmet either, sounds like another strike in your book.

RE: Loud pipes
So... I am all for the louder pipes thing myself... But there are some people out there that have pipes that are just crazy loud. There is a limit...
So performance, being noticed, and just plain old sounding better are reasons I have gone with new pipes... But I don't want them so loud that I have to replace the glass in the garage everytime I start the bike.

RE: Loud pipes
George C, thanks for the info. I actually thought they were loud all the time even at low revs. I guess if I'd thought about it I could have figured that one out.
Sparrow, you are correct where I'm coming from. I do indeed think the loud pipes are inconsiderate in the city. About the helmet, I really could care less. When in states they are not required, I often don't use one either. I just think a good helmet is much more important to safety than loud pipes, but that's purely opinion.
