Default Chevron Delo 15 40 Oil

Ok heres the scoop. I put Delo 400 oil in my 07 heritage. I figured if it was good enough for Cummins and Cat it was good enough for my Hog. It runs about 5 degrees hotter than Amsoil where the other Dino oil runs about 12 to 15 degrees hotter than Amsoil. Its a hell of a lot cheaper to buy and its a lot easier to get. I had an oil engineer tell me that if Cummins and Cat are getting 550 HP at 18 to 1 compression there is some awesome heat generated in the cylinder. He told me that it is the only oil he has ever ran in his three Harleys and has never had a problem. He said that thermal breakdown is the biggest problem for air cooled engines and that Delo 400 is as good as any oil made when it comes to that. He said to send in a sample if I didn't believe him. The 2 that I have sent in have come back clean.

Has any body else tried a premium Diesel oil before????

No,and I don't think I will.Too many good oils designed for v-twins to use an oil designed for diesels.

RPM Delo is all I've ever run in my bikes. SAE likes it fine for that. I buy it in the bigger jugs and also use it in diesel farm toys. The truth is that the oils a lot of people run in their bikes would break right down under the heat and compression and bearing pressure of a diesel. RPM Delo isn't a "diesel" oil. It's a high temp high pressure oil. Your friend, an oil engineer, knows a whole lot more than your biker buds know.

Delo is good for diesels but NOT for air cooled HD's your longevity will be shortened. It doesent have the additive package for motorcycles. Go online and find a Chevron oil rep and they will explain the differences. Ive been in the transportation maintenance business for 35+ years and looked into oil products, they have a specific application. I remember my 99 owners manual said you could in a pinch use non detergent diesel oil, but to immediately change it right away.

I'd bet the additive package it has is MUCH better than most if not all motorcycle oils , high level of zinc for one (Spectro bike oil is high in this too) I use rotella in my racecar&nbsp\\; , many "racing oils" seem to be having issues with camshafts these days.

The only problem with it is that it does not meet the specs on viscosity that HD says during warmer weather.
That fact, in and of itself, can cause a voided warranty if there is an engine whizoo.
As far as the oil additive package, the Delo probably has a better overall package than the standard HD oil, and as good as many other oils.
