Default would you trust a helicoil...?

Would you trust a helicoil to hold on a rear drive sprocket bolt?

if it is installed correctly, it should be up to the job. We use them all the time at work on our aircraft.

I don't think I'd trust a helicoil on the cylinder head of a high compression motor, but for your application (and since it's only one bolt), it should be fine.

I'm not crazy about it, but I've had guys with lots of experience building racing bikes and cars that swear by it so imho, if done correctly it should be good.

Heli-Coils&nbsp\\;have held many a head bolt on Mercedes engines since they went to aluminum blocks in '81. I've never seen one pull out that was done correctly.

I would HeliCoil most anything.A lot of things I have built, especially things made of aluminum, that need to come apart often,&nbsp\\;get&nbsp\\;HeliCoiled out of the box.

I've seen them hold as good or better, you have a lower chance of tearing up threads or galling with re-use and as said when installed properly they are fine.
