Helmets and HOT climates
Like Louisiana swampy misery humid nasty hot.
Anyone wear anything other than tha smallest beanie possible and not keel over in the dead of summer from the heat?
I need a new helmet and although I have a shorty on order - its on back order and I'm rethinking my decision.
I need something with either a full face sheild or snap on visor - to allow me to add an aftermarket one (for when it rains)
I'm tempted to think about a 3/4 helmet - but I'm worried I'd just be too hot in the dead of summer.
I already have a full face (well a modular), and its way too hot for the summer - but I use it in the winter.

RE: Helmets and HOT climates
Couple of suggestions:
1. Don't rethink.
2. Most of the shorties have snaps for about any kind of visor you want to hang on it. With your windscreen you have, you'll be fine.
3. Do NOT ride in the rain. Hide under an overpass or pull into the local pub and wait it out.

RE: Helmets and HOT climates
Actually, the MSF instructor I had (several years ago now) said that full face helmets actually help cool you some in really hot climates. Not sure if that is true, but then it's so hot here in the summer it doesn't really matter!
Actually it makes sense a little bit in a place that gets over 100. The air enters your helmet and actually cools slightly as a result. Makes sense, as your body temp is probably around 98-99, and the air is 110.

Full face helmets aren't bad as long as you are moving on the highway, I just crack the shield a bit and I'm great. It's in stop and go that they are murder. Feels like I'm gonna bake my brains after a while!
