used dyna purchase
Ive been seriously looking the past 6 months for the one that calls to me. Ive looked from used to new and \\;I am drawn towards the Dynas. Ive looked at new vs used, pros and cons. Of course a Harley doesn't really have cons... I recently ran across a 98 FXDS that I really like at a local used bike dealer. Mechanics there seem upfront. It \\;has 38K miles on it. Nice custom accessories. Overall great looking bike and seems to fit me. My question is, How do you judge used bike vs dollar value? he's asking 8K
Im told new ones, yes cost more, and you spend more on initial maintenance, but are just new and Im better off with a used bike.
Also do I need to worry about the age of a bike? Any issues I should look out for on a 98 EVO motor? I don't want to get into a hidden moneypit. I am having a second mechanic I know check out whatever I buy just to be safe. Ive compared models all over the internet, price seems a little low, but this dealer makes sales \\;\\\\\\;on quantity out the door, not higher prices.
 \\;\\\\\\;
So:
How used is used?
EVO vs Twin Cam \\;\\\\\\;motors? besides size on a used bike
 \\;\\\\\\;
thanks

Is new in your budget?
 \\;
2 years warranty. Gotta look at that.
Does the 98 have pipes, mods etc?
I would do the new one in a heartbeat if its in the budget.

After looking at a few ebay listings, the bike and price seems fair to me. \\; But as others have said I would look at new if you could. \\; Eight Large for an item is definately NOT cheap by any stretch in my book. \\; It is Eight Thousand hard earned Dollars, just ask my wife, lmao!
 \\;
Personally I would not spend 8-Large \\;on a 10 year old bike, unless it was THE BIKE, if you know what I mean. \\; If this is your dream bike then heck yeah...
 \\;
Could you put 8 down on new and finance the rest?
 \\;
Either way enjoy your ride! Hope to see you on the road.
 \\;
Cheers,

No unless as suggested put down 8 and finance the rest. Ive been trying to keep within a decent budget. I also like the idea of getting a FXD and mold it into my bike, not inherit one.

Greetings,
 \\;
Yeah $8000 is awful steep for a 10 year old bike around here. I'd definitely be leaning toward new. Banks (with the exception of H-D Financial) are looking to loan all sorts of money right now, so you can get a loan cheap through a local bank. So you have to pay about $250 for the first service! At least you know how the bike's been maintained and the warranty is a bonus too.

Tom,
Your financial manager sounds like mine!
Thats great advice, I like how you put that. I have looked at a new FXD or FXDC, they are at my budget limit, putting a chunk down and financing the rest would make sense.
 \\;
Thanks,
Jason
