Original pads still on the bike at 22,000 miles. The rear pads are getting real close to needing changing and I have the new set in hand for when I think I am at risk of damaging th rotor. The thickness of the rear pads right now are about the thickness of a quarter, which is about 1/3 the thickness of the new pads, so I figure they still have a few more miles to go.&nbsp\\; The front still have plenty pad left.

 

I've never worn out a rear set. 14k on this bike, 25k on the last bike before I sold it. Replaced the fronts a couple times, never rears, don't use that brake except to hold me at a light.

Seeing as most of the stopping power on a bike is in the front brakes(75% to 80%) if your going through rear brake pads and not front you are not using your brakes correctly and that can lead to bad situations real fast.

I'll have to partially agree with you.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I do a LOT of in city/low speed riding.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I trail the rear brake a lot as it adds stabilty when doing low speed maneuvers.

I'll add that, rarely do both pads in a set wear exactly the same.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I see a LOT of individual pads wearing at an angle (one side wearing more than the other).&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; If you wait until you get all of the goody out of a set of pads, you may end up eating up a rotor.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I almost did that in 2006 when I decided I had enough pad left on the front to make a 600 mile trip.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I was wrong...

I hear this a lot, and I have to call BS.&nbsp\\; In a hard or PANIC stop, 80-95% of your braking comes from the front.&nbsp\\; If your doing PANIC STOPS every single time you apply the brakes.... well....

I use the rear a lot for slow maneuvers, turns in and out of parking lots, and anytime I'm slowing to a stop very gradually.&nbsp\\; Many times when I stop I barely even use brakes, just downshift, and use a little rear brake because its more convienent while working the throttle down through the gears.

I'm nearing 5,000 miles and have a bald rear tire, so I'll find out soon what my brakes look like.&nbsp\\;

Riding style has a lot to do with it.&nbsp\\; Us old off road guys can be a little heavy on the rears.. LOL
