1993 POLICE BIKE
I need some help here folks. I've ridden Metrics for many years and never owned a Harley. I'm looking at a 1993 Police bike and need some advise as to what to look for problem wise other than normal wear and tear. The bike has the 1340 motor and looks pretty good.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Police bikes normally get their share of miles but they are also usually maintained well. Is it a Road King with an air seat. Heard their really comfortable. As far as condition you should be able to tell how tight it is by riding it. Welome to the club.

I bought a Kawasaki police bike from the County auction once and it was really cool. \\; A Harley police bike would be even better because it would be worth fixing when it breaks. \\; My KZ1000 Police Special was really comfortable, fun to drag the footboards in turns, and I even got an "in excess of 100 MPH" speeding ticket on it.

Care really depends on what department it came from, and being that it's a 93, \\;I would imagine that it was retired years ago, and you are buying it from a private seller, or a dealer that got it on a trade. \\;
 \\;
If you are getting it from a private seller, ask if he has mainenance records, and examine them. \\; Bring someone with you that is familiar with EVO engines and had mechanical experience, and have them look at it.

RE: 1993 POLICE BIKE
The problem with police bikes is the mileage on the odometer doesn't come near to the mileage on the engine. \\; This is because police bikes often idle for long periods \\;in enforcement situations. \\; Idling is also necessary to keep the battery charged for radio and other \\;lights and electrical needs. \\; The engine is often running for six or more hours per day, with perhaps 50 miles on the odometer. \\; This of course differs with city or highway service. \\; As mentioned above, take a good look at maintenance records.
