Did Oakland P.D. break California law?&nbsp\\; Unless there's an exemption somewhere, I suspect they did.&nbsp\\; Here's California law as it relates to this:
&nbsp\\;
California Vehicle Code Section 27151. &nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&n bsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Modification of Exhaust Systems
&nbsp\\;
(a) &nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\ ; No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.
&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;
Article 2.5. &nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Noise Limits
&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;
27202. &nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&n bsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Motorcycle Limits
&nbsp\\;
For the purposes of Section 27200, the following noise limits shall apply to any motorcycle, other than a motor-driven cycle, manufactured:
&nbsp\\;
(1) After 1969, and before 1973 ...... 88 dbA
(2) After 1972, and before 1975 ...... 86 dbA
(3) After 1974, and before 1986 ...... 83 dbA
(4) After 1985 ................................. 80 dbA
&nbsp\\;
Personally, I don't care.&nbsp\\; I just found it ironic.

What's really funny is they openly admit that the pipes are "well above the federal legal noise limit". Just wait I give it 6 months tops before the police department gets sued by somebody complaining about noise and then you'll see even more tax dollars being wasted.&nbsp\\;

This is the stupidest thing I have ever read.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
1) Cops above the law to break the law. Dude COPS ARE the law
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
2) Why should we waste the money on this, When in California we are layiing off teachers and have roads that are in disrepair.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;Loud pipes scare off the gays &amp\\;\\\\\\; mexicans
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
3) Why don't this scary cat officers train the public to look out for motorcycle and inforce the traffic laws Too busy showing off all the bling to hot soccer moms
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
What a waste You are just jealous because nobody is paying you to ride a Harley
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;

This is FUNNY! and TRUE!
The county Police around me all run Screaming Eagle pipes on thier HD's. They are not loud but, you can hear them.

What is the criteria for the 80dB limit?
&nbsp\\;
I thought EPA testing was 95dB at 50% of engine RPM w/ no load.

Hey, I ain't mad at 'em.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; But if and when I get&nbsp\\;a ticket&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;for my pipes, I will be sure to bring this article to the judge on court day and demand a dismissal.
