Front Metzler cupping-why?
New front and rear Metz on 95 Ultra. \\; 4k miles on tires and the front one is cupping badly. \\; It was balanced when put on. \\; Local indy shop asked if I used the front brake alot and when I said oh yeah,, \\; he nodded wisely and made a noise to himslef. \\; Hell the msf teaches the front brake provides 70% of braking. \\; Should I not be using the brake now to keep the Metz from cupping? Any idea what is causing this cupping. \\; I mean you can feel it when rolling the bike backwards into a \\;parking space. \\; Help

I am on my second pair on my wideglide. If this set cups like the last set I will not run another set of Metzlers. They were balanced and always full of air.

55Bubba: \\; Drain the fork oil out and measure both sides very carefully. \\; I will bet that there is a considerable difference between the two OR one side is completely contaminated with water. \\; Using your front brakes for all of that 70% everytime you brake will not cup the front tire, IMHO. \\; \\; ............. \\; BC

RE: Front Metzler cupping-why?
Bubba, you are right that the front brake does provide 70 percent but that does not mean its your primiary brake, you should be using your back brack for most of your braking and the front to assist, and never ever use the front brake when turning or in a curve. I tought MSF and was a Police Instructor did that Police Comp stuff. We hardly ever used the Front brake for anything. In fact the only time we used it was for max braking and when you felt the back tire was at max friction then employ the front brake. That being said alway keep your hand on the Front Brake when braking so it becomes habit. Just my 2 cents hope it helps put things in prespective.

+1. And I'm with Big Cholla. I'd check the forks. \\;I'd think that anything that causes that much odd wear you could feel. It shouldn't just come as a sudden surprise. Out of balance, fork issues, out of round tire - whatever. ??
