Letter to Bill O'Reilly Re: Garrison Keillor
Mr. O’Reilly,
I’m a serving member of the US Army, OIF 2 veteran, and new convert to the world of Harley-Davidson. In January I joined the tens of thousands of past and present motorcyclists who don or have donned a uniform in defense of our great nation. I’m also an avid supporter of NPR. I started listening to The Prairie Home Companion, by Garrison Keillor a few months ago and enjoyed his show. However, I now abhor this lout with a rabid passion. In a Chicago Tribune op-ed last week Mr. Keillor sat tall and stern on his too-high horse and thumbed his nose at the participants in the Memorial Day Rolling Thunder parade. He had the nerve to state that that his solitary visit to a museum to view artwork by Renoir (a non-American) was more patriotic, no, quintessentially patriotic, and that the hundreds of participants were merely posers, draft-dodging/war-dodging posers using the roar of their engines to mask the fact that “[t]hey are grown men playing soldier, making a great hullabaloo without exposing themselves to danger, other than getting drunk and falling off a bike.”
I’m dumbfoundedly speechless. Even had to make up that adverb just to explain how utterly insulted I feel. Where does this guy get off saying that? A quick check of his Wikipedia entry doesn’t show any form of military service, so I don’t see the bully-pulpit from which he has earned the right to preach. This clown is apparently oblivious to the fact that the vast majority of those very riders he vehemently disdained are or were members of the military, war veterans, war wounded, parents/siblings/family of war heroes, former POWs and maybe even recipients or family of recipients of the Medal of Honor. I could go on but I’d like to share with you the feelings of just a small portion of the biker community. They express things much better than I.

I really hope that you will find it in your heart to address this crime on one of your shows. I am currently living in Monterey, CA, and have learned to deal with the peace-niks out here who are simply exercising the rights I willingly fight to provide. They don’t faze me. In fact, I enjoy seeing them because they let me know that the pulse of the nation is alive – people are fighting on the home-front to make the country better while my brothers- and sisters-in-arms and I fight the good fight abroad. But Mr. Keillor’s article is an absolute affront to my willingness and readiness to endure that ultimate sacrifice. I have never been more insulted by a stereotype. You can’t even call his views a stereotype. It’s just out and out slander lashed out in anger because the serenity of his solitary “me” time was disrupted. Seriously, who in their right mind actually believes that looking at art by Europeans is an authentic and appropriate display of patriotism?? How is that more patriotic than hundreds of Americans riding through the Nation’s capital using flags, pins, clothing, hand waves and smiles, and the roar of an American-made V-Twin to draw attention to the fact that so many have given their all for the little that we living enjoy. How is that even equally patriotic?? His seat on his high horse above the VETERANS and FAMILIES OF VETERANS in D.C. celebrating Memorial Day is absurd, ludicrous, sad, insulting, and shameful. Notice I didn’t say regrettable. I’m glad he said what he did ONLY because I now know his true colors.
Thanks for all you do.

Keillor is a pole-smokin leftie, just like the rest of NPR's "entertainers". They should call it National Socialist Radio. Bunch of goat-blowing tards.

O Reilly is the same as that windbag minnessotan. Just another turd.
O Reilly is the same as that windbag minnessotan. Just another turd.
He supports our troops and from what I've seen from watching his show gives a pretty fair shake to those who come on.
I've seen no eveidence that he's in the tank for any political party or candidate,he has a never ending passion for protecting Americas kids and he gets letters every week bashing him from both the left and the right who equaly seeing the same interviews with different eyes get a different take.
He's an Independant and seems to me pretty squarely in the middle politicaly even if he is a pretty conservative guy.
His show gives time to both left and right so I see no reason to complain about bias.
You won't see O'Reilly bashing rolling thunder participants or the Patriot Guard.
Maybe you've been reading the nut case blogs like The Daily Kos or The Huffington Post to form your opinion based on their hate speech rather than watching his show and forming your own opinion.
I don't always agree with all of his views but I like the fact that he doesn't back down and isn't affraid to hold the rich and powerfull accountable.
He also always has facts to back up what ever story he's on,anything he isn't sure of he says so.
He also gives tons of money to charity and has done a lot for our troops over the years including visiting them in Irag and Afgahnistan, pretty hard to lump Mr.O'reilly in with that scumbag from NPR IMHO.

O'Reilly is a conservative. Not sure if you are watching O'Reilly. He's almost as right wing as Hannity who I think is awesome. Being a former Minnesotan, I never got why Keillor was so popular. Then again, I don't fit his age demographic so that could be part of the issue...
