Wind vibration/noise

Wind vibration/noise
I recently purchased my first HD - 2006 Classic that has been mostly converted to an Ultra. I experience a wind vibration that seems to occur on my helemt that is very annoying and I cannot determine the source or if this is normal. I have a 9 1/2" windshield and I look about two inches above the windshield. I have lowers and the fairing bat wings also. When I drop lower into the seat or move up closer to the windshield the noise/vibration on my helmet diminishes considerably. I have tried a half and 3/4 helmet with only a slight improvment with the 3/4. I generally wear ear plugs. I tried a demo bike before I bought this one and do not recall this vibration/noise.
Any ideas ??

RE: Wind vibration/noise
Don't think you will escape the wind, only reduce it to some extent. You might try with or without a visor, vents open or closed, or a different face shield for the helmet if it can be done. Not familiar with your windshield, and don't have an Ultra, but windshields deflect the air pattern differently depending upon the mounting angle and design. Try a borrowed helmet(s)...perhaps Ultra owners have suggestions.

It sounds like you need a higher windshield, if it stops when crotch down, as soon as the wind carries over the windshield it probably catches you in the forehead , or try a lower windshield but that will defeat the purpose.

If my guess is right I had a similar problem on my UC with 9" windshield, but it had more to do with the reverb from the motor/wind and using earplugs. \\; Try it without the ear plugs n see if it helps.

I have tried without ear plugs and the vibration noise is not noticable. Everything is louder obviously and I was only trying to be responsible with my hearing. I guess I can't have everything.

RE: Wind vibration/noise
My Ultra does the same thing. I have tried both 1/2 and 3/4 helmets without much difference. Either way it is still way less of a problem than rinding my Softail without a windshield. I guess it is all perspective.
Getting a taller windshield might work but then you have to look throught it instead of over it. You would forget about the noise from the headache you'd have! LOL
