So what is the proper response when someone compliments your bike?

It happens all the time, and I seem to alternate between:

Random person: "nice bike"
Me: "yep."

-and-

Random person: "nice bike"
Me: "Thank you"


Agreeing with them almost seems arrogant, but saying 'thank you' seems wierd because they're complementing the bike, not me.

Or maybe I'm over-thinking this.

 

"Thanks, man"

 

I agree, besides, he is complimenting you; your choice of bike, mods, color, etc.

 

yeah you know i was thinking about this last saturday,, was down my local Harley garage and chatting to a guy who complimented my bike three times during the conversation and i was stuck for what to say,, first off i said thanks,, but then i hadnt a clue so just talked through it,, good to know i,m not alone here

 

What else can you say - but "thanks". The bike can't answer.

Yep does sound a bit arrogant and stand-off-ish, I agree. Besides most bikes have the owner's personal touches to it so, in a way, they are complimenting you.

Now, if they say "nice sportster" then the response is entirely different. LOL

 

Thank you with a big smile works well for me!

 

In England I would smile and say, "Thank's mate - that's nice of you to say so."

Surprisingly, nobody has mistaken it yet. People around here seem to know their bikes.

 

It's amazing how many people have trouble accepting a compliment. I used to have a hard time with it as well. Years ago someone told me the two magic words, "Thank you." Nuff said.

 

Try: Thanks, I really enjoy it, it’s finer than hair on a frog.
