Bike complement Etiquette

RE: Bike complement Etiquette
A simple "Thank you" works best for us. (Then we have to explain that "Yes, it really is a Harley." "No, it wan't built by Porsche." "Yet, it's made in Kansas City along with the Sportsters." "No, I don't believe Eric Buell had anything to do with it." "Beats me Officer, I've never had it to red-line in fifth." "No, you can't take it around the block." "Yes, the first time you yank the throttle open is a bit scary.""That's not the tank. The tank is under the seat." and finally "Not toilet trained are you? You lift the seat up.")

RE: Bike complement Etiquette
Whenever someone pulls up next to me and says "nice bike", no matter what he or she is riding, I would return the compliment whether I mean it or not. I work on the assumption that we're all riders and to make someone feel good about their bike is important. I've had a few "scooters", I know what abuse between riders is all about. Dan

So what is the proper response when someone compliments your bike?
It happens all the time, and I seem to alternate between:
Random person: "nice bike"
Me: "yep."
-and-
Random person: "nice bike"
Me: "Thank you"
Agreeing with them almost seems arrogant, but saying 'thank you' seems wierd because they're complementing the bike, not me.
Or maybe I'm over-thinking this.
