I certainly recommend doing it yourself. I think, though, that 7 hours, while a little high for a professional, is not grossly unreasonable. I put my 16" Apes on my RK (w/internal wiring) and I put some 12.5" Apes on my buddy's Fatty and I had never taken a motorcycle apart before. It took plenty of time, well in excess of 7 hours each, but it got done cheap and right. The Fat Boy was much faster than the RK and we did not buy any wire extensions because we made our own. Don't underestimate how irritating it is to get a whole mess of wires down a little hole and around bends in the bars. Simple in theory, but a PIA in reality.

 

To help with the wires, you may have to pour in baby powder into the bars to help the wires slide easier.
