Choke puuls in???
Hi guys,
I've been a member as of the begining of the year, I'm not one to get into many post,But you guy's have alot of great stories and advice, So I was wondering if someone could help with a
small problem I've been having. I have a 05 FLHR carbed, I brought it in for the 20k service a
couple of months ago and now every time I start it let it sit while getting ready and then take
off when I reach down to put the choke in it's already in, It keeps pulling it self in ,I tried to
tighten the lock down nut and it seems pretty tight I don't want to break it, So I brought it
back to the dealer and they gave me the o-well answer. Should I replace the nut or is it the
choke cable. This is my first harley, I do most of my own wrenching, I just want to make sure
before I take it apart. Any advice would be appriecated.
Thanks. [sm=WTFsgign.gif]

Hold the cable behind the nut in place with a pliers and tighten the nut as tight as you can by hand. There should be a metal nut behind the bracket that holds the cable in place. If you're not doing this, you're just not tightening it enough. I can't believe the dealership didn't help you.

Just behind the actual choke **** there is a plastic round nut, that is what you need to tighten. Becareful as to not use pliers or you stand a chance in breaking it. Remember it is made of plastic. This will cure the problem.

If you can't get the tensioner nuttight enough by hand, you may need to loosen it off about four turns and turn the jam nut behind the mounting bracket. Sometimes, the jam nut is at a point where it will not allow the tensioner nut to compress the housing.
As was previously mentioned, be careful with the tensioner nut. You break it and you are hosed.

Mine does it, too. Meh. I attributed it to vibration.
Don't feel bad. My 1968 BSA Gold Star shook so much the carb adjuster screws would fall out.
