Even here in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia we don't need no stinking stickers.

 

My inspection sticker goes on the license plate. But then that is removeable too.

 

The inspection plate that comes factory on HDs is held on behind the license plate with 2 bolts. I would have pulled the sticker off in front of him and put it on the plate where you wanted it. What an A$$Hole.

 

In most states that require inspections the sticker can be put on a plate but the plate has to be either welded or riveted to the frame. Bolting it to the frame is illegal. I went through the same thing when I had my bike inspected at an independent shop. The plate wasn't riveted so he wanted to put the sticker on the fork. I told him not to. Fortunately he didn’t charge me for the inspection. I then took the bike to an HD dealer. The inspected it and riveted the plate to the frame (and charged double what the indy shop would have)

 

I have always had my inspection stickers put on the front frame down tube. About as permanent a thing there is on yer bike and very unabtrusive....

That said, it all depends on the state you live in as the individual states regulate that sort of thing.

 

My dealer handed me the sticker and said put it with your reg, and ins card in the tour pack. If you get stopped just show it too the cop.
No stick-on's on my forks.
