RE: Dealer just charged me $162 for a new battery. WTF?
My 94 Lowrider bought in 93 is on its thirdHD battery as of 5 weeks ago. I don't care what anyone says about HD batteries, three batteries in 15 years is not bad in my opinion. With10% off I paid $79. but that was 5 weeks ago this coming Sat. So if the prices did jump as you all say, I'm glad I didn't wait.
I personally believe my batteries lasted this long because I bring them in the house during the winter were it is warm and I put a tender on it.

I had lunch with a parts guy from my dealership today and he said that they were just notified by HD that batteries for the touring bikes are now MSRP $199.

It is not the dealer. The motor company sent a letter to all dealers in the begining of May, giving details of the price increase being charged to dealers for items like oil, batteries, tires etc.... Your dealer can print a copy of the letter of of h-dnet and show it to you. Enjoy it now, more price increases on the way.

Yes, you definitely paid for the logo on this one. But it is true that lead prices have been climbing fast for the last few years. I noticed that when I got back into the reloading hobby recently from a number of years away from it. I'd heard the reason for the price increase is because China is building more nuclear power plants and are buying up lead.

ORIGINAL: ken thompson
Well I was simply goin by the majoirty vote here on the forum that the Harley batteries are generally better although a bit more expensive and should be used to replace the original. I was expecting to pay $100 or so. Not $150.

I bought a HD battery from the dealer in March and paid $90.00. I do not know about the increase but all things metal have increased dramatically in the last 3 months, so lead probably has too. A quiock check of my dealers web site lists the OEM battery for 97 and up at $149.95
