Learner Rider here & Harley question
Hello,
I'm a learner rider from England, don't know how many english people are here so I'll explain.
I'm currently riding on a provisional license with a CBT (Compulsary Basic Training), which means I'm only legally allowed to ride a bike upto 125cc, which I am, I currently have a Yamaha XT125R and I love her too bits.
At somepoint this year I am going to do my full license, but because I'm 18 this means I can only do a restricted test which means the following, taken from a government website.
I really want a harley andthe Dyna FatBob looks amazing, would a Fatbob be able to be restricted to the above requirements?
And if so, how would the bike perform? Top speed?
Cheers,
Learner101.

Motorcycles up to 25kW(33bhp) and a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.16kW/kg. Motorcycle combination with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.16kW/kg

65 hp and a weight of 300 kg... I think it's a bit more than their maximum allowable...
How long until you can get an unrestricted license?

You can only have a full unrestricted license if you are 21 or over or if you have ridden on a restricted license for 2 years.
For example, I am 18, if I got a license it would be restricted, after two years of riding on it, when I'm 20, I could ride anything I want.

Learner,
Welcome to the forum! You don't say where you're from. If you are in the Southeast, head on down to Alton and West Meon on Wed nights. There'll be plenty of experienced riders to talk to and plenty of good banter.
Something else to consider is insurance costs for a Harley at your age. That may be prohibitive. Give Carole Nash a call and ask for a quote. Also, a dealer would be able to give you the lowdown on restricting a bike. One other thing is that a restricted Harley may have such rubbish performance that you'll be really disappointed with it. As unpalatable as it may be now, you might be better in the long run to keep what you've got for a couple of years and then upgrade when you have no restrictions. It'll also give you a couple of years to get your road sense and riding skills sharpened up so the transition to a bigger bike will be easier.
Just my £.02 worth.

Yes this is very true, I'm just trying to get some information together, the insurance would be the biggest thing but just thought I'd get an idea first.
I'm from Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

A Harley is a large bike and limiting it to 33bhp will make it pretty slow. Have you considered a Suzuki LS650 Savage/Suzuki S40? It is a small cruiser that has classic cruiser styling, has right around 30 or 31 HP, weighs 350 pounds, and can do highway speeds. It is single cylinder, and easy to work on. It has a great community at http://www.suzukisavage.com. I traded mine in on my Sportster but I kinda miss it. It was really fun zipping around in the city with it.
Edit: Oh... and insurance (at least in the USA) is dirt cheap for it.
