RE: Whats the Deal with HD and Skulls?
Great question, I've wondered about this myself. It's not my thing. Personally, I don't want anything "death", "devil", or evil-related anywherenear my bike. Some folks just love to adorn their ride with them, though. To each, his own.

Yea, But I never seen the motor company push the skull thing before.. But then they are out to make money and if this is what the kids want,
I agree with Pastor Patrick.

Skulls and flames...classic biker themes (when done right). I don't dig this whole skull thing HD's selling...nothing against skulls just think it looks too corporate. I like flames but...nothing worse than a bad flame job IMHO.

First off I want to say that I respect other peoples opinions but! I don't think a few skulls on a bike makes someone a satanist or an evil doer. That might be reading into it a little too much. I think that falls into that judge not less ye be judged clause. After all it is just a design theme.

I have to say that I think HD did a great job with the skull/flame paint on my bike. I couldn't be happier.

Maximum respect to others and their opinions - however I have to say the more cynical side of me says its a great marketing ploy of behalf of HD so thatall those born again bikers and RUBs can look bad **** mean with minimal effort off the shelf.

That's probably what it is. . . though like the pirate insignia, maybe it's related to the Knghts Templar? Not bloody likely, right?

The whole skull legend is that evil spirits would leave anything alone that had already met with death - hence skulls imprinted on 'things" were thought to be dead and therefore ward off the evil spirits. This goes way back - pirates adopted the skull and cross bones largely to do just that - ward off evil spirits particularly since their ways were not in keeping with the best intentions.
I am not certain of this, but I believe Willie G sort of adopted this theme and associated it with HD in a big way back in the day for the very same reasons as stated above. Of course it just "fit" the whole Harley image, thus making big bucks for the MoCo in apparel, logo's, and everything else associated with the company.
