Shoei J-Wing vs. Similar/Cheaper Helmets

RE: Shoei J-Wing vs. Similar/Cheaper Helmets
I guess its all down to how much you like your head in one piece and how important your good looks are. Always been my opinion that you get what you pay for.
I have a Shoei XR1000 for a full face as its light, well ventilated, fits snugly and well padded and conforms to all the very stringent UK BS Kite Mark standards. It comes with pegs on the visor to fit anti fog inserts. I use it for longer journeys and motorway riding.
Same goes for my Arai Highway 3/4 lid which I use for non motorway riding.
The Shoei was around £300 and the Arai around £150.

RE: Shoei J-Wing vs. Similar/Cheaper Helmets
I wear an HJC AC-3 CARBON helmet with a face shield that moves up and down (the shield costs extra). It's made of carbon fiber and is lighter than any half-helmet (that isn't also made of carbon fiber). In addition, if you care, it's both DOT and Snell approved.
Harley dealers stock them around here (the Los Angeles area), but when you're ready to buy I strongly recommend this eBay seller. I've bought several helmets from him, including an HJC AC-12 carbon full face, and find him both reliable and (in the case of the full face) hundreds of dollars cheaper than any other source,
Hope this helps.

I'm partial to Shoei for a few reasons. I have an RJ Air (3/4)and a RF1000 (Full face). The inner shape of the helmet seems perfect for my head shape (slightly oval). When the "stinks" set in I can replace the insides of the helmet and it smells new again. I'm not sure that protection is any better or worse than any other certified helmet but I'm willing to pay for the added features. At the end of the day I get more service from the Shoei because I can keep them "fresh" longer.

For that kind of helmet nothing beats the Schubert J1 (expensive but the best)...
Mimo.
The steel chin-bar is removable...

Shoei or Arai only for me.
Quality, Fit, Solid constrution. To the proof lokk at what most racers are wearing.
I use to buy Bell when it was in the USA but everything changes.
