installed new baby apes on my 08 rk....used a 4" wire extension kit, got it back together and the check engine light is on, and it seems to be running real rich, a little black smoke and runing crappy, any ideas?

 

Probably an issue with the wiring. Check the engine codes...they should point you in the right direction.

 

i have no way of checking codes, not to mention that was a bitch running them wires through the bars, almost sorry i did it...really sucked

 

I would check your throttle cable - you messed it up when you reinstalled - there are no wires in your handle bar which will effect the performance of your bike.

 

You can pull the codes by holding in the speedo button when turning on the ignition. List what you find here, I'm sure some one with ED manual will help you out.

A: You could have a pinched wire or a minor short which would effect running.

B: You just voided your warantee!! Now you can use Mobil 1 or Amsoil...

 

If the only changes were wiring extension and the installation of ape hangers. Trouble shoot what you added and how you did it. Floating grounds and bad connectors can cause problems. If you messed around in terminal connectors you could have moved a pin. What did you plug or unplug? If you added any wires for something else you could have it connected wrong. I don't know how you did it but I would take my time and logically analyzes what I did. Odds are that if it ran good before you worked on it ---then you made a change or a mistake somewhere.-----Backtrack patiently.

 

they say the most expen addidition on bikes is changing bars esp on internal, good luck friend of mine did same thing ended up costing him big bucks to fix, hopefully you just ucked a little bit

 

I miss the corealation between what you did and a lean condition or running badly. Please advise when you find what the heck is going on. My guess is they are not releated.
