what, actually, was the kids "wish"?

i always thought the "make a wish" foundation was in the business of granting wishes to kids with life-threatening illnesses. i did not think that kids with issues of mental challenges were catered to by this organization.

my understanding of the "make a wish" was to give the child something positive to look forward to while combating treatments for life threatening disease... has the organization changed/expanded on this?

I have worked with Make a Wish a couple of times. The kids I worked with didnt have the resources to do what they wanted to do.Make a Wish made it happen for them.
If these folks have the resources then its not right.
Blow the whistle? Someone probably should. Will it happen? Probably not.
Its a shame thata kid in need will lose out.

Of course they could have refused. Just like the parents of the kid that got to go to the superbowl, or meet their favorite baseball player, or took a trip to the pet the dolphins. Make a Wish does not in the business of helping poor people. Once you accept this fact you will appreciate what they do and not chastise the people accepting the gifts.
+1 Exactly! They are Making Wishes for kids.....not county welfare. I just wish they knew that my oldest daughter has ADHD and has always wanted a new vivid black Street Glide for her Birthday.

Motorcycling and deficiently attentive hyperactivity do not mix. Just say no.

Tell you what, since some of you can't seem to grasp, understand, or appreciate the Make A Wish Foundation's premise that they grant wishes to special children, irregardless of parents income, feel free to start your own charities and put the parameters on it you feel are approriate. Make A Wish set their own guidelines the way they wanted, and you can do the same. Now how many of you are going to step up?

Speaking of grasp.......please re-read the title of this thread. It was never intended as an indictment of the Make-A Wish Foundation. It asks if they are being taken advantage of.

I regularly donate VERY generously. I know that being on here means the bike is parked, but try to keep up anyway.

Ah think MAW is a great organization - period.

Ah also think the parents that accepted the hack took advantage of a situation. Had a friend similar to 'em - she'll play the pity card at the drop of a hat if it gits her sumthin'. Ah finally told her one day that her constant freeloadin' wuz simply too much, an' ain't spoken w/her since. Ah WANT folks ta git help, an' ta git thangs they need - or even want. But ah want ta also see 'em show a modicum of self-help, too.

MAW is a wonderful charity and those folks took advantage of it. This sort of thing happens everywhere you look nowadays. I call it the 'entitlement syndrome'...so many expect to be compensated for their 'troubles', real or imagined, that it is a wonder anyone is left to pay the tab.
