Default Tips for riding with a passenger

Hey, I am somewhat new to riding ( just over a year) and have a 08 Fatboy that I really like. I'm pretty confident on it and got my liscense last year thru a two day rider course. Good experince. I ride whenever I can and have spent many years on other toys like sleds, etc. I know they are different, but I'm accustomed to being a defensive rider.

I'd like to take my wife for a ride (she's the one that said "let's get a bike"), but am nervous about what to expect in tems of handling the bike. I've been told it won't matter much, just tell her to look over the shoulder on the turn side and no sudden moves , etc.. Just don't want to do something stupid and hurt her. There's always risk, but no need for me to be the problem! Thanks for any thoughts/tips. Steve

Well, just take it slow...Remember, the extra weight makes a difference when it comes to stopping..You just need to keep in your mind, you are responsible for both of you...
Again, take it slow, be alert and enjoy.....

Your ahead of the game in admitting your nervous. You might want to start out in a large empty parking lot. If I had advise for her it would be wait till your ready to get on and don't try to help, just relax and ride. I think my daughter is a better passanger than my wife, she is just so relaxed. Parking lot manuevers (slow) are a little trickier with the extra weight, but it not that bad at all.

Oh, yea, ask not to talk to you until you both have some experience. Not a good distraction when you are nervous.

Practice with your passenger in a fairly safe area...practice, practice, practice, till you're both comfortable negotiating everyday or busy traffic areas...good luck to you both...

Thanks to all. She'll hopefully be a good passenger. Lots of miles to ride this summer. I appreciate it. Steve

My wife really likes to adjust herself when I am coming to a stop. Put her back there and just get use to it. give her a few rules to follow until u get use to her being back there. I would agree my daughter loves riding with me. she is just relaxed all the time.
