RE: Kansas Cops not biker friendly
As a retired Kansas Sheriff I find it hard to believe you can judge all Ks. LEO's from the actions of one officer. I know I will not miss you!!!! I see by your profile you are from no where.

Let me give you a hint: MIZ-ZOU. You see, what really got me in trouble is that I told this western part of the state LEO that I was more of a Jayhawk fan. That alone should have done me in.

Get this. Traveling through Kansas this week on my bike. Riding on leading edge of huge storm that produced baseball sized hail. Doing 80 mph in the middle of nowhere on great highway and little traffic. Local cop--aka Barney Fife--stops me and says: "Did you know you were doing 80?" I said "I knew I was going fast, I'm truying to get ahead of this storm." Then, the guy keeps me on the side of the road for 30 min and the sky is getting blacker. Finally, wrote me the ticket and said slow it down. Then, as Barney was stopping me, another local stopped a young sweet thing cager with a Kansas licesne plate--she was pacing me. It was simple catch and release. Talk about bias.
For all you Kansas law men reading this. That little piece of chump change you will get from my ticket better taste good because it's the last time I'm feeding your greedy little hands. You guys have discretion in a case like this. This guy kept me long enough to let the weather catch up with me. I will ride out of my way to avoid Kansas in the future. I saw more cops than gas stations running through your state. You claim you are the natural gas capital of the world. I think you're the smokey capital of the world. I can spend my gas, food, lodging and tourists dollars in Nebraska or Oklahoma running east to west.

Hey, you rolled the dice and lost. You knew you were speeding and breaking the law going 15mph over the limit. Man up and quit sniveling.

I most respectfully disagree. Hurricanes typically move forward at 10 mph or less. They contain winds that can blow at 175 mph or more, but the storm is moving forward very slowly.
A plains thunderstorm may sumetimes move forward as fast as 50 mph, but more typical speeds are 20 to 30 mph. Ditto for Tornados. And like a hurricane, both types of storms can include winds greatly in excess of their forward speed.
I know a number of police officers and troopers, some of whom also ride motorcycles-with loud pipes, yet. As with any profession or avocation (includingbikers)some are jerks, some are nice guys. It doesn't matter what the state is, either.

Fair warning: If you can't stand sarcasm, stop reading now!
And about State bashing, we all can pick on stereotypes about any state[sm=boink3.gif]. By the way, there really isn't much corn in Kansas--that's Iowa, along with the pig farms. Iowa really does stink. And Missouri and Arkansas--they're full of hillbillys all of whom have inbred and have three teeth missing from drinking to much moonshine. And why does Oklahoma have a panhandle? Well, every toilet needs a flusher. California? New York? Tip the country, and all of the nuts roll to the coasts. East coast people are rude, and Southerner's are friendly but ignorant. Floridians are all on Social Security. If you're from Minnesota, your diet is limited to hot dish and lutefisk[:'(], don't you know? And if you're from Texas? Well, this forum's just not big enoughto go on about Texas. On and on and on?
END OF SARCASM
I've been to a lot of places in this country, and have found that people are pretty much the same everywhere. Most people are pretty good most of the time, but everybody has bad days, and some are just jerks by birth or training.
I read and hear a lot about "respect" on this forum--but I also see a lot of disrespect. Usually, we will get accused of disrespect if we disagree with somebody. There is a difference. Making fun of someone because of what they choose to ride or where they are from is disrespect. A disagreement about helmet use, or loud pipes, or what carburater to use is disagreement--not disrespect. Crowing becauseyou blew someone away at a stoplight because they were on an "inferior"(anything different than mine)bike is disrespect. Sharing that you prefer the look of a Dyna to that of a softtail is not disrespteful of the softail rider--it is simply an expression of personal taste and that is different for every individual. How boring would it be if we didn't have those differences.
It's really kind of amusing--the biker "creed" is about how independant we all are, what individuals we are, and how we are "putting it to the man", but as soon as one of us breaks lockstep--perhaps by favoring a helmet law, or some other heresy--all h**l breaks loose. We are apparently "independant" only as long as we are like everybody else, and question nothing
If you run 80 mph on a road where the speed limit is less, you run the risk of a ticket--in any state in the union. If you snot off the officer, you just doubled that risk. No, that doesn't mean that everyone who runs 80 will get a ticket. If the officer is responding to an accident, they are probably going to take the highest priority first.
And, yes, I have run more than 80 i

THere are strorms that move 80 mph. They are called hurricanes.

I don't know of many storms that move 80 mph. 45-50 at best, I'd say you got what you deserved, and I don't live in Kansas.
