Silver Paint on 100th Anniversary Models
I have been told by my dealer that the silver paint on the 100th anniversary models is not possible to match in a paint shop, due to the extreme way it was applied in the factory. I have a small stone chip on the front guard and they tell me I would have to replace the guard. This sounds like bulls... to me. Any one heard of this?????????

Checked with a good paint shop? Used to work in a body and fender shop a zillion years ago. Fred, our paint guy, could match anything.

I've been in the paint business for over 30 years, the last 20 with DuPont. Take it to a good body shop. They can match it. BTW, I hope that you'll use DuPont.

Maybe that "dealer" can't match it. I'd check the dealer locator on the MoCo website and get 3-4 numbers of dealers in your area and call them all and ask the same question. I'll wager you will find one who can do the repair or will know a quality shop that can. If they all give the same spin try the MoCo hotline and ask for the color formula. If they fail you call an independent chopper builder for referrals on a custom painter. KB

I've heard of this, if I remember right it has something to do with how transparent the silver is. I guess the HD paint shop had a tough time getting it right, I did look at some 03 bikes and it sure does look like it would be a PIA to get it right. I guess HD didn't even release the paint formula to PPG, you might get lucky and find someone that can formulate a close match but be ready to pony up the extra coin this will cost.

You can buy the paint from HD and have a paint shop repaint it. I know that what I did. Althought it cost me $120 for a pint of paint and a pint of clear.[:@]

You wouldn't be in this predicament if the bike was painted the right color in the first place.

Seriously, you can go to any good paint supply shop and it can be perfectly matched.
Not being able to match it is information from a misinformed dealership tech.
Most dealerships told me the 05 passenger grab rail wouldn't fit the 06. They couldn't have been more wrong. That's another story.
