@ Firetender: is that 15W50, or 20W50 that is the same as V-Twin?

Prolly will give amsoil a try in the future, but I just need oil NOW!

It's an amazing fount of all things oil. The top section has plenty of good info as a starting point. Take advantage of it.

FWIW, an oil that says it is specifically for air-cooled engines is about 1/16" from being a scam. When one looks at the composition of these so-called air-cooled oils one finds no discernible difference from any other similar quality oil. Bottom line - forget the Mobil 1 V-Twin that is hard to find and over-priced. If you want Mobil 1, get the 15w-50 car oil from Wally World, Auto Zone, or wherever. Firetender knows what he's talkin' about.
I may be wrong on this but I believe Mobil1 V-Twin has more zinc in it as opposed to the 15/50. The zinc helps in cooling the air cooled engine.
Actually the zinc is in there as an anti-wear additive. And it really only comes into play when all else fails and you get metal-to-metal contact. The zinc protects the two metal surfaces of engine parts from actually coming into contact with each other. Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 has just over 1800 ppm of zinc, while the 15w-50 has just under 1400 ppm of zinc.

Anti-Wear Additives
The prime additives for anti-wear properties are zinc and phosphorous. These are
typically added in the form of zinc dialkyldithophosphate (ZDDP). The zinc level was typically
0.12% to 0.15% in SG automobile oils; some SL oils now have as little as 0.05%. This is not
necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, oil manufacturers are using other additive packages these
days to provide anti-wear properties in their oil (DiCarlo , 1999). Other anti-wear additives used
are molybdenum, manganese, potassium, and sodium. Molybdenum is such a hot topic that we’ll
talk about that separately later on. ZDDP is a last resort protection against metal-to-metal
contact. Motorcycles are no more prone to metal-to-metal contact than automotive engines.
Improved viscosity maintaining compounds reduce the possibilities that this will be an issue
(Guillory, 2002).
