I've heard of clutch cables breaking but haven't seen it happen myself. Thottle/idle cable failures are much more common.

The Harley clutch cables are pretty heavy. On my old Triumphs, I never go longer than 10,000 miles or I know I'll soon be driving home without a clutch. They seem to break right where they enter the cable housing on the clutch end.

I've broken a couple of throttle cables on my old dyna, the first one at about 50,000 but both were the return cables not the acceleration cable. never had a clutch cable go though.
