Default Helmet Speakers illegal in two states

Bored today, so I sat down with the 2008 Touring Handbook Motorcycle laws:

Helmet speakers illegal in:
[ul][*]Massachusetts[*]Rhode Island[/ul]
Helmet speakers to be used ONLY for communications:
[ul][*]Georgia[*]Pa[*]Va[*]All of Canada[/ul]
Helmet speakers single ear only:
[ul][*]Ca[*]Md[*]Minnesota[*]NY[/ul]

Dang, is this stupid or what? (!)

Yes, and earplugs (unless fitted by an audiologist) are illegal in PA and most everywhere else. I wear them every time I ride and have no fear of being stopped for them, since no one can see them. I have even been stopped by a LEO, removed my helmet and plugs, and nothing was ever said about them.

Apparently the rationale behind this is that anything that limits your ability to hear is bad. How about super-insulated cars with 180 watt stereo systems?

Well I guess they figure we're more likely to get killed so they're legislating us more.

I only used one source (Touring Handbook 2008)and you would have thought HOG would have all their statements verified.

Hell yeah they can, if you've got bluetooth. I've got 400 songs on my LG Chocalate phone that transmits bluetooth to either my flip-up full face helmet with Camos Bluetooth receiver and 2 mounted speakers, or my Oakley R-Rokr sunglasses that have bluetooth headphones.

As far as it being illegal, fine write me a ticket and I'll pay the fine, but I'm not doing without my tunes and that's how I'm going to play them. Into my headphones or helmet speakers.

Not necessarily... headphones/earphones are illegal for car drivers in most states, too.

Why the hell it make a difference??? Being deaf dosen't stop anyone from obtaining a licence , does it??? I do understand the reason the jerks passed the laws.... back in the day of low power am radios and windows down for 2-60 airconditioning , but in todays world of loud stereo's, VERY well insulated sound wise car's , and I would think it would be discriminatory to ban deal ppl from driving...
