I am an Associate Producer for a large video game company.

 

I own a technology company, I do everything related to computers; File Server networks, e-commerce websites, POS systems, Access control, Security Cameras, Campground Reservation Systems, GPS Fleet Tracking - if it connects to a computer I install and support it. I have been thru hair down to my ***, long beard,earrings, though I keep my tattoos under my clothes for now. I sell the jobs and do most of the work without any issues.
Your reputation precedes you! Its all about attitude and intelligence. If you know what your doing and produce results 99% of those out there could care less. When something goes wrong do whats right and nobody has the opportunity to judge you wrongly.
I have been told by a few clients I don't look like the typical computer geek, one even said if you can get away with looking like that you must be good at what you do, but for the most part there just glad to get their stuff working/installed/fixed or whatever I'm there to do.

I work in a very conservative industry - insurance. I'm the only one in the building who regularly commutes to work onmy bike.There are some other folks here who own bikes, but they won'tride unless it's over 70 degrees and sunny. When I clomp in wearing leather jacket, boots and riding pants on cold days, I get looks likethe barbarians have crashed the gate. Can't imagine what would happen if I grew my hair long, grew a Sam Elliot mustache or got some tattos. Iprobably would be escorted from the building. That's OK. I'm riding for the fun of it, not to impress anyone or to meet corporate stereotypes.

 

Bald head(not by choice[:@]). Handlebar mustache, pierced ear(take em out at work) and no tat's that are visible with a t-shirt on. Fireman, and part time delivery driver.

 

Goatee with head buzzed - used to be very long but got tired of it getting hung up on stuff at work (in the woods), as well as unwanted attention from LEOs. Full sleeves and back piece (so far).
I work as a Forest Professional (logging engineer), and was once told that I would never be invited to play golf with the big-wigs because of my ink.
Big whoop, as long as I'm not a heat score, I'll do pretty much as I please.

 

During the week, I live a corporate life--i.e.,clean shaved,hairhigh and tight, shoes shined, etc.On the weekend, I don't shave, I weartattered clothes andanearring,andI curselots more because I can.The approach works for me. Use it at your own risk.

 

This thread has made me remember one thing.. how lucky I am. I look how I want, act how I want and say what I want and my clients either deal with it or I find new clients. That said, I certainly don't disrespect anyone but I can be myself. I can't imagine having to hide who I am for 40+ hours out of a given week.

 

Sleeved down to my fingertips. Short hair, which is usually dyed an interesting array of colours. Tats all over my bike, and up my neck to my hairline.

System Control Operator for an electrical utility. 6-figure income, with an education to back it up.

I get razzed from time to time by my co-workers, but it's all in good jest. I don't deal with the general public in person too often anymore, but generally, the reaction is good.

However, there were instances where I believe the hand tattoos ruined potential new jobs for me. I guess that teaches me two lessons - don't get your hands tattoo'd and then look for work, and 2 - I don't want to work for a place that judges me based on my appearance, anyways.
