The biker look and career choice. A question.

RE: The biker look and career choice. A question.
Moustache, no tats, pharmacist, no problem! This thread reminded me of something that happen to me years ago. When I worked for a chain, I had ridden to work, parked right in front of store, & a woman was entering the store just as I pulled up. I was wearing a leather jacket & jeans & she gives me this look of disgust, you know what I mean. I passed her on the way to the prescription dept. in the back of the store. She watches me go behind the Rx counter, does an about face, then goes to talk to the manager. I could'nt hear the conversation, but he told me she said, I have a Rx to get filled, but no way am I going to allow a "biker" pharmacist to filll my prescription. We both laughed like hell.

Close cut, goatee, no ink. I did get s%^#$ from a former company, blue-ish, when I went from goatee to soul patch on chin.
I am responsible for consulting services to two large companies, working for one of worlds largest tech companies.

Beard and mustache, no tats, no piercings. I've seen several tats and iron I like, but I'm a pu$$y and don't like needles.
I work as a wireless geek. Tats, crazy hair, and piercings are pretty much accpeted in the IT world these days. They're just not for me.

I work in the IT field supporting content management applications, networks, operating systems...etc. It's your typical office/cubical environment. I walked in this morning covered in leather from top to bottom, complete with bandana, and scruffy wind-blown beard.
There are so many.... odd characters at this place that I don't stand out in the least.
Here is a snippet from a dress code reminder sent out by Human Resources, which they do every year as Spring rolls around:
I can live with that. You can't see a tattoo on my body if I'm wearing pants and a short sleeved shirt. But it's nice to know that when I do eventually decide on a sleeve, it won't interfere with my job too much other than having to wear long sleeves when on-site. That's not often since 99% of the support I provide is performed remote.
Tattoos, leather, facial hair, piercings... as time goes on those things are less and less taboo.

Displaying tattoos is acceptable. However tattoos must be covered if image and/or wording is inappropriate for the workplace. Tattoos should be covered when interfacing with customers, vendors, suppliers, visitors, etc.

Long hair, full beard, no tats visible w/short sleeves. Senior Technical Specialist in Automotive Engine Control and On Board Diagnostics. I've given presentations to the Society of Automotive Engineers at their major World Congress, IEEE Congress, other professional organizations, and Universties. As was mentioned before, it's all about what you know and how you present yourself. I usually wear a pony tail and beard trimmed neat, business suit (I make this look gooood, apologies to Will Smith)...
