It's a sign of the times. If some idiot does something stupid and hurts himself, he can sue H-D because the manuel did not specifically state "DO NOT do something stupid and hurt yourself." I understand the cover-your-a$$ reasons for this. Otherwise, yes. I have read, and sometimes re-read my owners manuel.

 

I try to read the owners or instruction manual on everything I own. I don't propose to know everything there is to know about my bike, etc. There is a good reason they write manuals-I figure if I spend my good money on a piece ot equipment I sure want to learn how to use it the best I can.

I read it but haven't been able to ride since due to fears of death and serious injury.

 

If you were to investigate, you'd probably find a ******** or two who caused Harley to have to write the warnings. Just like there'sa tons of ******** who used ladders on slick surfaces or during electrical storms. Ever notice how ladders are covered with warnings?

 

Do you know why push lawnmowers have safeties so you can't run them without a hand on the bars? Someone picked up their lawnmower while it was running to trim the hedges with it. When they curled their fingers under the edge of the blade guard their fingers got cut off. They sued Sears for selling them a lawnmower that didn't prevent them from doing that.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that every single one of those warnings was the result of a lawsuit or threat of a lawsuit.

 

Just think - ever warning is there because some nimrod did just that. Don't put in any orifice of the body, while hot. That is on a curling iron. Don't leave the wheel of the vehical while on cruse control. As Forrest Gump said "Stupid is as stupid does"
