I love my Road king, sold my Goldwing to buy it and their is no comparison. The RK handles better and is much more comfortable on a long ride. The pull back bars are great for me as I have a problem with my hands and the low swept back bars are great for me. The Goldwing was murder after about 30 minutes.

I love my Road King, it feels so at home cruising down the highway. Like others have said: it's the Road King for a reason.

I ordered a 2008 Road King in Kuwait also last October and picked it up 2.5 wks ago from my local dealership. A very painless transition other than the wait. Military Car Sales is located at all the bases in Kuwait and one for sure located in the Green Zone. I leftApril 02and they were offering like $899 off the Extended 5yr Warranty I paid $999 for! I special ordered ABS Brakes, Cruise Control and Factory Alarm System at a substantial savings. I bought mine at Arifjan (AJ) from the British gal, Emma Perfect.

This bike is ****! Great ride, nothing but compliments. First bike I've owned in over 23+ years and very easy to handle and control from the get go. You won't go wrong ordering a FLHR or FLHRC. Be safe and keep us posted.

James,

05 RK Custom and love it. I don't want any other (well maybe a Heritage for playing).

Do you have a wife that will be riding with you? My wife rides but has her own (05 Deluxe). If you plan on trips 2 up you may want to consider SG Classic (more comfortable passenger seat, more storage for trips).

I put three seats on mine and went back to the sundowner. Six - eight hours in the saddle no problem.

Ron

ps. Thank you for your service.

pss. If you will be traveling one up, ignore my post above and grab a Road King

Thanks for all of the posts. I have been dealing with a German agent named Pete and he is a good dude I think.

Problem is that HD's are going up alot for 2009.

Since I cannot take delivery until I return from deployment in March 2009 I will have to get the 09. All options are going up as well.

I am not really saving that much by going through the Military Purchase Program. I may just wait until I return and visit some local dealerships. I like Abernathy's at Union City, Tennessee and they generally are right on MSRP.

I will get my HD maybe just not through the Military Purchase Program.

Thanks again,,,,
James

I added an 07 FLHR to my collection last fall. I really like this bike it's very smooth on the road it has plenty of get up and go, it has plenty of room to carry your extra chit,my kids will inherit this bike someday, I tend to keep things around that I like.

First, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I love my RKC. You will find a ton of options in the aftermarket for the bike. Its got the "wow' factor and is a pleasure to ride. That said, it will be way under powered compared to you previous rides. It will ride smoother but handling will be a little quirkier. I think the VTX is an outstanding bike all the way around. You will find fit/finish very good on the king the the details for chrome, etc are far superior than the metrics. If you get the RK Classic, your going to have a lot or polish on the bike. If you decide to sell down the road, the HD is going to have held its value much more than the metrics. With the previous back issue, look to change seats and get a backrest. The corbin worked well with my back and I pulled the bars back with WO518s. RK is a great ride and regardless of any "short comings" makes you smile more than any other bike around IMHO. I like the BMW 1200GS. Its my second choice if that tells you anything about my likes. But the RKC is pure american classic red white and blue unadulterated fun.

Yes , the bars be suckin'. I ride with two RK riders, sometimes they switch with me, I can't ride theirs very long, the backswept bars put me off balance. But aside from that they are real nice bikes. If that is what you want then that is what you should get.
I have ridden over 20,000 miles with stock bars and don't really know where all the complaints about the stock bars come from. Maybe it's because I use a backrest so I sit slightly forward. I did ditch the stock seat in favor of a Mustang Regal Touring seat.

You will be happy if you get a Road King. Especially if you plan on long rides.
