The biggest difference you will notice between your friend's Honda and your Harley-Davidson is that when you come out of a bar, his Jap bike will be kicked over on its side and the Harley is still standing.

OK -
An acquaintance who claims to have "really done his homework" told me this AM to reconsider a Harley purchase......
*some sippage*
ANyway, yes - he may be on Honda's payroll but he is recommending I go Japanese.
*more sippage*
I'd love to hearing the strait up on this.
Thanks.

Not sure if I understand what you mean exactly, Are you saying he WORKS for HONDA???
What do you expect him to say ??? !!
Regardless of whether he is actually employed by Honda, he hasn't done homework. And YOU shouldn'trely on passing the test by cheating off someone else's paper.
Current Twin Cam 96 engines are sweeeet!
I owned Hondas as a kid, and am considering buying one soon for my kid.
They make some good kid's bikes.

I stopped by Stone Mountain HD a few weeks ago to check on my bike while it was in the shop. It was during my lunch hour, and I had a friend from work with me who had recently sold his Ducati. He just kept looking at the service rates on the board and commenting how much cheaper they were than the comparable rates for a Ducati. So I guess it's a matter of perspective.
And yes, you will look much, much better pulling up at your destination on a Harley than on a Honda or Yamaha knock-off.

Well,
It's ok, I have friends and semi-friends that are MO-RONs too.......If you are around enough people it's bound to happen.....if it gets worse, you can just delete him or cross him off your "friends" list or whatever you do these days on your page or whatever.........
remember, they always say "you canpick your friends but you can't pick your family"

Put over 6,000 miles on an '07 Sporty with no problems. Now I've put over 1k on my Dyna and it just went in for services today...
This is kind of like the old Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge debate, except in the end I know that my properly maintained vehicle will still stand. There aren't any problems with Harley's or else the motor mags would rip them apart and they wouldn't of been in business for over 100 years. Your name can only carry you so far.

I think you've gotten some pretty good feedback on your question. The question you have to answer is what bike do you want? That's the one to buy. There are alot of different bikes out there and you have the rest of your life to try as many out as you can. So many bikes, so little time !!!!!

There's not one vehicle out there that doesn't have some "baggage" associated with it.Have hada Kawasaki, a Yamaha, now on my 2nd Harley, first being an EVO. Wouldn't have changed that rotation for a moment, had fun on ALL the bikes, but it also gave me the opportunity to find out the brand I would stick with as a main ride. Not to say I wouldn't consider going out and getting a "play bike",there's some nicestuff out there.MYmotorcycle is the Harley, my choice my ride.
You're the one that's gonna be riding the thing, not them, get what the hell you want and be happy with it. Some of the people on here have suggested renting bikes to find out which one appeals to them. That's a great idea, may cost you a little change up front, but won't be as much a loss than trading in/ sellinga bike you weren't happy with.

I know guys who have spouted that same misguided rationale and bought metric when the truth is they could not afford to buy a Harley.
It's sad that they had to even bring up why they bought metric instead of an HD. Why not just proclaim proudly that they ride a ______ ?
