Good thing he wasn't wearing panties on his head. Could be a ticket for lewd non dot headgear lol. Seems like there is a web site called rate a cop? I still don't like tickets and I am not a fan of ticket writers.

In Illinois we don't have a helmet law, but when I took my Riders Edge training a couple years ago the instructor told us we have to wear a DOT helmet or no helmet, a non-dot helmet is illegal in the state. We asked about a dew rag or knit cap and he said those were fine, he told us just don't get caught with a non-DOT helmet - we all laughed at the time and the instructor just said he doesn't write the laws.

Milton FLA is famous for its speed traps ( check AAA ) and leo hassling. If you live around there you would know all about it. As far as the hemet ticket, the cop is wrong. In FLA you can wear a baseball cap, bare skin or a full face, it's all legal.

I don't know the laws out your way but first i would find a friendly wrench and have him certify my speedometer; it just could be a couple mph's slow. You could also bring in your receipt for the SE mufflers and show they are regular Harley Davidson parts. If it seems like the judge is buying into the explanation, tell him yes, you are guilty of wearing a non-DOT helmet but you were doing it because you did not think you coulod safely carry it. He just might cut you a break. Maybe you got an a@@hole cop but you'll get a fair judge, maybe worth a shot.

The Actual Florida Helmet Law:
316.211(3)(b) -- Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person over 21 years of age may operate or ride upon a motorcycle without wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her head if such person is covered by an insurance policy providing for at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or riding on a motorcycle.
Also, in FLA you can not be ticketed for going less than 5 mph over the limit.
