Man I feel your pain but I am still having a good chuckle. You have a great perspective brother.
Here in Georgia the little kritters of fear are overgrown Possums, Grounds the size of dogs and the greatest fear of them all...Freaking White Tail Deer charging into the road. I have had near death experiences with Bambi way too many times. More than once I slowed to wait for the enevitable 2nd and 3rd deer to charge across and sure enough here they came like clock work. I always have felt a little worried about teh city boy riders who think that first deer is it. We kill a lot a deer down here every year but those buggers get a lot of us also. Even Cagers...

RE: Jackrabbits!!!!
Holy Crap! I got the bright idea to get a pic of a jack rabbit off of google to help out rob_bottom. It came with a little surprise. Man you have to be careful with what you type in to a search engine these days. Just type in jack rabbit on google, you'll understand.
Anyway, I believe it. I spent some time in Texas, and they do have some ginormous rabbits down there in the southwest. Hope you heal up quick and get back in the saddle.

RE: Jackrabbits!!!!
Jackrabbits are Hares not rabbits. (Yes, there' s a difference)
And yeah, they're quite a bit bigger than rabbits, but the other major factor is the *speed*. Hares can hit speeds of over 40 mph, which carries a LOT of energy. There's a reason why they coursed greyhounds after Hares/Jacks, they're one of the few creatures fast and nimble enough to actually get away.
As for eating them, well, I've done it, but they're better stewed than fried, since they are seriously lean and a bit tough.
