Default Bulb for 05 and later Halogen Headlamps??

Hello,

I purchased the updated Halogen headlamp kit that comes standard on 2005 and later Harley's. The one with the clear glass lens and the reflector in the rear of the headlamp.

The bulb blew out and two dealers I called did not have the replacement bulb, nor knew where to order one!!!!!!

Is there anyone that can give me a replacement bulb number for this headlamp? Is there an auto headlamp bulbthat will interchange?

This is the most asinine problem I have had yet with Harley, all 05 and later FXD's have this headlamp and no bulb to replace???

Even Zanotti did not have any idea where to order the bulb!!!

Part # J-68329-03 is the number I believe for the bulb,

Thanks,

It is just your standard H-4 bulb. Autozone and WalMart both sell them.

You can get the bulb at any auto parts store. It's an H4 (9003) base.

WOW!!!

Quick replies, thanks much!!

I thought this might be the case, a typical auto bulb,

Why couldn't the Harley dealers simply tell me this? (A rhetorical question)

Why don't they simply stock the replacement bulbs, is it because they are not going to get the Harley markup???

I am really pissed over this, I paid 90.00 for the updated headlamp and the dealer can't get me a new bulb????

Any variance on the wattage possible, as in a higher watt low and high beam?

The stock bulbs are 60/55 watt. The problem with higher watt bulbs is that they run really hot and tend to melt the lamp socket.

The BEST lamp I have found is a PIAA bulb, although you usually have to order them. The PIAA runs at stock wattage but puts out a MUCH brighter, whiter light, even more than halogen. You want to be sure that any bulb is anti-vibration rated. Here's a link to a PIAA.

Has anyone installed an HID upgrade in the housing yet? They are available for the 9003 lamp base and the ballasts are quite small these days.....

Hmmm...weekend project?

cHarley is right. Spend 40-50 bucks and get a PIAA. I have the Super Plasma GT-X bulb and night vision is much improved. Bulb uses 60/55W and puts out 135/125W, and has a bluish-purple tint when looking at it.
