Wife wants a bike (sigh...)

RE: Wife wants a bike (sigh...)
Support her 100%! It is great to hear that you've already agreed to hold off on buying her a bike of her own, until she passes a basic MSF course. My wife got her licence 8 years back. It means two things; I always have someone to ride with, and I never get (too many) hassles when I'm buying kit, parts or even bikes. (we're up to 5 at the moment...mainly because she's been bitten by the bug as well...) I think you should consider yourself a lucky man. Good luck to her on her course, and good luck to both of you in the future.

Seriously though, if she wants to ride, let her do it! You'll only know if you do it. One of my friends husband bought her a nightster for her b-day so they could spend more time together riding. She hasn't touched it yet though and I keep encouraging her. He is happy either way cause now he has two bikes to play with. I hope your wife really gets into though! Nothing better!

For some reason she really digs the Sportsters. She admits that she's a little scared of the weight of the "big" bikes. I've tried to tell her how much happier she wouldultimately be on a Deluxe or maybe a Lowrider. She won't hear it. Tried to tell her that Sporty's aren't really starter bikes, they tend to be top heavy. She doesn't care. Tried to tell her we should look at less expensive used bikes...nada. LOL, did I mention she can be stubborn??? She makes good money and wants a newer bike if she's going toget anything at all. I admit, I like the idea of having a Sporty in the garage next to the Ultra, but for entirely selfish reasons!! Honestly, the idea of her getting hurt on a bike scares the crap out of me.

Sounds like you are looking for reinforcement for what the two of you have all ready decided to do rather than advice. If that is the case go ahead and make your own mistakes.
A Sporty is much faster and much more powerful than most people will admit. It is not a starter bike for anyone.

RE:"Any advice from guys that have gone through this?"
Re-read the post. I posted a quote just for you and so it would seem you're not even close. Besides, a sporty is a fine starter bike. Not everyone rides the same and some pick up faster than others, male or female. K

Mud, dirt, and brush, are a lot more forgiving than pavement and cagers.
