Default Cleaning Tanks???

I bought a set of tins last year with plans on getting them custom painted. Im wonderin what way to go about cleaning out the insides of the tanks, do they sell something you can put in to clean and remove surface rust and or debris? Also should i use a sealer once cleaned? If so what brand? Any info will be appreciated, thanks.

Here are a couple of rust removal products. The safe rust remover takes an longer soaking. The Kreem product has an acid to attack the rust, then a coating for the tank. I've used the safe one...didn't like the idea of acid but I'm sure its OK if you take care. It's fairly popular.

I have used the Kreem products many times in the past while restoring a older bike with the original tank. many times the inside of the tank has quite a bit of rust, and it does need to be addressed in order to do a quality resto job....at least in my shop it does.

In any case.....you will be safe with any of the Kreem product line. Even for first time users its quite easy to work with.

I took my tanks to a radiator shop. They cleaned them, pressure tested them and coated them for 40 bucks.

Take a look at www.POR 15.com. I like thier tank sealant better than the others. Good Stuff. Prepping the tank properly prior to sealing is the key.
