This idea I know would not totally prevent theft,maybe its just a waste of money but might just make the theif move on to an easier vic.

That being the case, I would recommend that ABUS Chain above. One of the advantages is that you can order length 1 to 100'. It's a top rated chainand meets MIL spec for security.
Warning: It's not cheap. Norm for 8' is about $160.
Your strategy of anchoring the bike to another bike or fixed object is the best way to go. Good call.

While considering what to buy, take the time to Google "bike lock bic pen". You'll find a wealth of info regarding a flaw in cylindrical locks. Don't get me wrong, I have both a cable and disc lock that use a cylindrical lock. I haven't attempted to pick them....yet.
My two cents, get an alarm and a taser. When the first gets activated, use the second.
