Odds of Dying

Odds of Dying
Stumbled across this from the National Safety Council and thought I'd share. I read in another post about someone having a baby and the wife wanting him to give up the bike, so I looked this up, out of curiousity.
I know itstotally statistical based, and based solely on death, but its interesting to see that your "odds" of dying by Heart Disease, Cancer and Stroke areextremely high, even the odds of dying as a motor vehicle accident or evenpedestrian are higher than that of by motorcycle accident. There are way more pedestians than motorcyclists, so I'm sure thats why the number is higher. More people die by drowning and suicidesthan motorcyle accidents even! By the numbers, the beach/pool is a more dangerous place.
Not saying Motorcycles are safer than cars by any means, but its interesting to see these numbers. I still believe in safety gear, training, riding safe and within your skillsto prevent adding to the statistics.
The graph is using 1999 stats (but its really cool looking) and the link has 2004 stats, and they are slightly different, but the graph is more visual and easier to consume.

RE: Odds of Dying
The list of people I know that are dead grows exponentially everyday.Statistically thenthat means one day I will join the list but the question is when will I know it?

RE: Odds of Dying
I know the odds of dieing are pretty high, the fact of the matter isthere's achance that it might even happen to me some day so I don't worry about. I figure the big thing is to see how much enjoyment you can get out of life first because no matter what any body tells you sooner or latter the dieing part is going to get ya.

Someone did a nice job with that graphic. Those cancer odds are sobering. Many co-workers of mine have fallen to cancer over the years, and sadly two more are on their last legs.
